Social Responsibility

Açı Schools > Academic > Social Responsibility

Due to rapid changes in technology any kind of information is easily accessible. Therefore we believe the most valuable skill we can help our students develop is the ability to take responsibility for their own learning so that they can become individuals who are capable of reinterpreting information.

Another reason we offer our social responsibility projects is our trust in our students. We see our students as individuals who will have a say in the management, resources, prosperity, and development of the country, with a broad sphere of influence. Our goal is to graduate young people who have the power and awareness to fulfill the responsibilities they take on in a way that will positively contribute to society.

For this reason, we carry out social responsibility projects that will increase the awareness of students from preschool through high school, and contribute to their moral development. These projects include collecting aid for students in the eastern regions, sending them letters and drawings, completing our work for a day without using paper and only with waste materials, producing educational materials for children with leukemia, organizing music sessions for people who cannot leave the hospital, hosting spring festival events prepared and organized by our students for our partner schools, sharing books and toys with peers we have never met, hosting elderly people from the nursing home at our school, meeting the needs of animal shelters, writing and staging a play to raise awareness about violence against women, and many other learning experiences that serve for the same purpose.

Preschool

Each year, during our “Harvest Day” in November, we collect various foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and pasta brought to school and share them with children in need living in Istanbul. Additionally, since 2007, we have been preparing gift packages based on the needs of the schools we choose in the eastern regions of Turkey every year and exchanging letters with the students from those schools. These are some examples of our social responsibility efforts.

Elementary School

At Açı Elementary School, social responsibility activities are organized by the “Social Responsibility Committee.” All projects are designed to engage students with real life situations and needs with the goal of fostering a touching and mutual learning experience. The activities include student initiatives that involve questioning, planning, working together, producing, and sharing.

Within our social responsibility program, Açı Elementary Schools carry out the following activities:

  • Collaborating with NGOs such as Toçev and Çekül, and organizing donation campaigns.
  • Raising awareness about street animals by providing food donations to shelters every year.
  • Donating books to schools in need on April 23rd, a project carried out by our students.
  • Organizing a toy campaign during Children’s Rights Week.
  • As an Eco-School, our school designs and implements sustainable environmental projects every year.

Middle School

Time is changing rapidly; we now have the responsibility of preparing our students for a future that we cannot fully predict its dynamics. Therefore, we conduct a social responsibility program in our schools, starting from preschool and continuing through high school, to raise awareness among our students about the society and the world they live in. This program is based on principles such as sustainability, student engagement and feedback, adherence to universal values, and creating mutual benefits. In middle school, this program is carried out as an elective course, and all activities are planned in a way that the all school members are informed and actively participate. .

Some examples of social responsibility activities in middle school include:

  • Preparing shelters for street animals and placing them on the streets
  • Organizing events to plant trees and green the city
  • Inviting the elderly from nursing homes to our school and organizing activities with them
  • Organizing educational materials, learning activities, and a spring festival for our partner school
  • Offering elective courses after school to our partner school students.
  • Donating books
  • Using the donations raised from events held during our school weeks to meet the needs of other students
  • Inviting Nesin Foundation students to our school events and presentations
  • Using the school radio and book club technical resources to record class novels for our friends with reading difficulties
  • Fulfilling the New Year’s wishes of students in schools in need through our “Wish Tree” project (e.g., books, toys, clothes, board games, etc.)
  • Donating the mpney raised via the New Year’s Fair to social responsibility projects and foundations.

High School

Açı High School “Community Service Applications” Common Goals:
Açı High School contributes to the realization of its vision by fostering students who are aware of concepts such as “equality” and “social justice,” knowledgeable about the current state of the country and the world, conscious of the need for change and solutions, and who act in alignment with the mission of the projects they are a part of. These students are informed about the activities of public institutions and NGOs, open to collaborating with them, and capable of developing social networks and building relationships with them..
