‘Açı Schools Music Programme’ offers a comprehensive and innovative content from pre-school to high school with the understanding that music is one of the cornerstones of an individual’s social, cultural and emotional development. 21. In line with the 21st century’s dynamic educational approach, the programme not only introduces music genres, but also aims to develop students’ skills such as creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.

Offering the opportunity to experience different music cultures, this programme integrates contemporary approaches such as digital music production and notation software into its curriculum. Collective activities such as choir and orchestra not only enhance performance skills, but also strengthen students’ sense of responsibility, leadership and teamwork competences. In this way, students gain in-depth experience in both the theoretical and practical aspects of music and discover the lifelong transformative power of art.

PRE-SCHOOL

Açı Preschool Music Programme enables our students to have their first musical experiences in a fun and meaningful way. The main objectives of this programme are as follows:

  • Loving and Exploring Music: To ensure that students enjoy singing, listening and meeting instruments.
  • Developing Language and Expression Skills: Music enriches students’ vocabulary and strengthens their ability to express themselves.
  • Increasing Self-confidence and Social Skills: Through group work, students learn to be self-confident and to work in harmony with others.

The programme content has been carefully designed to increase children’s awareness of different cultures and languages:

  • Songs from Different Cultures: Introduces children to different cultural rhythms and melodies.
  • Musical Games: Develops rhythm, tempo and listening skills through fun games.

In addition, with digital sound sources and creative movement activities:

  • Creativity and Imagination are supported: Children are encouraged to create their own stories with music.
  • Rhythm and Coordination Skills are Strengthened: Children’s motor skills are developed with simple rhythm instruments and body percussion.

Through this holistic approach, students begin to see music as both a fun learning tool and a source of cultural enrichment. Thus, music becomes a powerful means of communication that helps them understand the world and express themselves.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

Açı Primary School Music Programme aims to enrich our students’ music culture by introducing them to popular and traditional music genres from around the world and to help them master the correct music terminology. This programme offers a comprehensive learning process to develop students’ cultural awareness and musical skills.

Main Objectives of the Programme

Developing Music Culture: Students learn different genres such as classical, jazz, pop, Turkish folk music and world music, while recognizing important artists and works in these fields. Thus, they understand the cultural diversity of music and look at art from a broader perspective.

Mastery of Musical Terminology: In the lessons, they learn basic musical terms and learn to use both theoretical and practical musical language correctly and effectively.

Musical Skill Development

Practice with Orf Instruments: Students experience rhythm, melody and harmony studies with the Orff approach in a fun and interactive way. In this process, students’ musical perception is strengthened based on note knowledge.

Choir Practices: From Grade 3 onwards, students experience the joy of collective music making and develop social skills such as co-operation, harmony and discipline through voluntary choral activities.

Through this programme, students begin to see music not only as a subject, but also as a meaningful element of art and culture in all aspects of their lives. Thus, music forms a strong bridge in their social, emotional and cultural development.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School Music Program aims to develop individuals who respect different music genres by introducing them to these genres in historical, cultural, and social contexts. Through this program students learn how to express the emotions, thoughts, and images created by music using the correct terminology. The program combines individual and group music experiences, providing students with the opportunity to both deepen their musical knowledge and develop practical skills.

Main Goals of the Program

Cultural and Historical Awareness:
Students are introduced to different music genres and artists, analyzing these works in their historical, cultural, and social contexts. This process helps them understand music not only as an art form but also as a tool for social expression.

Correct Terminology Usage:
Students develop their critical thinking and analytical interpretation skills by explaining the expressive power of music using the correct terminology.

Practical Music Education

Grades 5 and 6:
Work continues on different music genres and artists. The instruments played by students are combined with classroom instruments to form small class orchestras, to provide them with the experience of making music collaboratively.

Grades 7 and 8:
Lessons are taught in two rotating categories:

Music Culture:
Students place the works and artists they have learned about from elementary school in chronological order, relating them to historical and political events. They make in-depth analyses through period and location comparisons.

Music Applications:
In studio settings, students produce music in small groups, experiencing the intense practice of making music together.

Orchestra and Choir Studies

Under Elective Course 2, the school orchestra is formed with instruments such as cello, violin, flute, saxophone, clarinet, rhythm, and guitar, allowing students to experience the dynamics of orchestral music firsthand. The choir culture, which starts in elementary school, continues through middle school, reinforcing students’ collective music-making abilities.

Through this program, students not only adopt music as a learning field but also as a lifelong passion and a means of expression.

HIGH SCHOOL

The Açı High School Music Program is enriched with club activities that allow students to choose based on their interests and musical preferences. The program enables students to experience music both individually and collectively, while developing their creativity and expressive skills, allowing music to be used as a personal means of expression.

Students select clubs that match their interests and abilities, experiencing in-depth musical experiences. During this process, they develop skills in taking individual responsibility and connecting with art.

School Orchestras:
School orchestras, which involve various instruments, allow students to develop their collaboration, harmony, and leadership skills, while providing them with a closer understanding of the dynamics of music production.

Individual Music Studies:
Students explore and deepen their musical abilities through solo work. These individual studies help build their self-confidence and allow them to experience how music can be used as a personal means of expression.
