At Açı Schools, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors. In this section, you will find brief information about our emergency procedures and actions taken so far..
Cooperation with AKUT and Emergency Response: Açı Schools continues its collaboration with the AKUT Foundation in the 2023-2024 academic year, revising the emergency action plan and providing training. AKUT Foundation provides consultancy services for disaster preparedness to our school.
One of the most important areas in which the Akut Foundation benefits our school is through training. Our teams, established for first response, incident site management, and emergency crisis management at each campus, have completed their training according to a planned schedule. These teams have received training and instruction based on the latest information regarding emergency protocols and procedures to be implemented in the event of any disaster.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, training on “Emergency Management (EM),” “Incident Scene,” and “First Response” was supported by example scenarios and drills. These drills covered:
· Initial assessment
· Incident scene management
· Coordination
· Emergency response plans
· Evacuation protocols
· Communication
Following these drills, improvements and revisions were made where necessary.
In addition, risk assessments for each of our campuses are regularly updated. In addition to the emergency drills we conduct, additional drills are conducted throughout the year and are supervised by the AKUT Foundation. These simulations help us to identify areas open to improvement and develop our emergency protocols accordingly by activating our response mechanisms. Our crisis management is practiced at all our campuses and there are specially prepared procedures for each campus. In this way, we have the ability to act in an effective and coordinated manner in the event of an emergency.
We aim to revise our procedures and current practices, which we revised after the 2023-2024 academic year, under the general guidance of Akut Foundation in case of need in the following years.
• Emergency Trainings: As every year, all our staff members whose certification renewals were due in areas such as search and rescue, first aid, and fire safety completed their training and obtained updated certifications. Each year, we ensure that, in accordance with regulations, 10% of our staff are trained in emergency protocols, and we provide opportunities for additional staff members to receive training. This results in a well-equipped emergency response team that exceeds legal requirements.
• Emergency Drills: At the beginning of each academic year, fire and earthquake drills are scheduled as part of the academic calendar. These drills, both announced and unannounced, are carried out at least four times across all campuses. After each drill, evaluations are conducted with responsible personnel and school management, and action plans for improvements are developed if necessary. Our compliance report with the 2018 Turkey Building Earthquake Regulation (TBDY), demonstrating our commitment to adhering to regulatory standards and continuously improving our emergency protocols, has been obtained for all our campuses.
Our school undergoes periodic training and audits under the consultancy of an occupational health and safety (OHS) specialist, and possible improvements are realized immediately. Under the guidance of our OHS and Acute consultant within the scope of reducing non-structural risks,
Fire extinguishers, hoses, and fire cabinets are continually checked.
Açı Schools provide a safe learning environment in accordance with the criteria set by the Ministry of National Education in the residential areas where our campuses are located, and have also contributed to this situation by taking extra measures strategically in each of our campuses. One of these measures is the suspension of education and/or the cancellation of excursions in the event of adverse weather conditions or other situations that may pose a risk to our society.
In the event that schools suspend education due to adverse weather conditions, Açı Schools follow the information provided by official sources.
In the trips planned on the campuses, our administrative staff may cancel school trips when necessary by constantly monitoring the conditions. The trip cancellation notification is shared with the relevant parents through the school automation system, and the trip is rescheduled if there is availability in the program.
